Waxing 101
Your Guide to a Perfect Wax
As beauty therapists, your skin’s health is our absolute priority. While we specialise in waxing, we care about your skin most of all. To get the most out of your treatment and ensure the smoothest, most comfortable experience, please follow these simple steps.

Part 1: Preparing For Your Appointment
1. Let Your Hair Grow
For the best results, your hair should be at least the length of a grain of rice. This typically means allowing at least 4 weeks of growth since your last wax or 2 weeks since your last shave. It might feel like a long time, but it’s essential for a clean wax.
- Holiday/Event Tip: If you’re preparing for a big event, we recommend a trial wax at least a month beforehand. This lets you see how your skin reacts and ensures it’s perfectly settled for the special day.
2. Exfoliate Gently
In the week leading up to your appointment, gently exfoliate the area with a soft brush, exfoliating glove, or a rough towel. This removes dead skin and lifts the hairs, allowing the wax to grip them more easily.
3. Avoid Sun, Stimulants & Alcohol
In the 24 hours before your appointment, please avoid sunbathing, sunbeds, and consuming significant amounts of caffeine or alcohol. These can thin the blood and make your skin much more sensitive.
Part 2: On the Day of Your Wax
1. Shower Before You Arrive
Arriving clean is best for hygiene. Afterwards, we recommend you avoid hot showers for 12-24 hours while the pores are open. If you need to freshen up right before your visit, just ask for one of our biodegradable wipes.
2. Wear Loose, Clean Clothing
Loose, comfortable clothing will prevent friction on freshly waxed skin. It’s also a great idea to bring a clean change of underwear, especially if you’re not heading straight home.
3. Don’t Worry About Your Period
Periods can be unpredictable. If you’re on your period, there’s no need to cancel—we want you to feel great regardless! As long as you are wearing a fresh tampon or a menstrual cup, we can easily work around it. Please don’t feel embarrassed, it’s a normal part of life.

Part 3: Essential Aftercare (The First 24-48 Hours)
Your hair follicles are open and prone to irritation, so protecting your skin is critical.
- Skip the Gym: Sweat and friction from tight workout clothes can cause irritation. Work out before your wax, not after.
- Avoid Pools & Sun: Stay away from swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, and sunbathing. Chlorine, salt, and heat can irritate open pores.
- Wait to Swim: Get your wax at least two days before you plan on wearing a swimsuit in the sea or a pool.
- Time for a Treat: While we advise against alcohol before your wax, enjoying a margarita afterwards is a great idea!

You should expect some discomfort, especially if it’s your first wax, you haven’t been in a long time, or you’ve shaved in between. However, it should never be extremely painful. A skilled therapist using high-quality wax makes all the difference in ensuring the treatment is as comfortable as possible.
It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous, but please be reassured that we do everything to make you feel comfortable. To help you feel at ease, we will talk you through the entire process. After our initial consultation, we explain each step of the treatment as it happens, so you always know what’s next. Our focus is entirely on the technical aspects—your hair type, its growth direction, and providing a clean, professional service.
We use the correct hot wax for each body part. Lycon hard (peelable) wax is used for sensitive areas like the face, bikini, and underarms. It shrink-wraps around the hair without pulling the skin, making it much more comfortable. Strip wax is only used for larger areas like legs and arms. We never use harsh strip wax on delicate skin.
We recommend every 4-6 weeks. Regular waxing can lead to finer hair growth, often allowing you to go longer between appointments. Please don’t be tempted to shave in between!
- Hollywood: Everything removed, front to back.
- Brazilian: Most hair removed from the front and back, leaving a strip or triangle on top.
- Extended Bikini: The sides, top, and bottom are tidied.
- Basic Bikini: Just the sides that would be visible outside a standard bikini bottom.
